    Hello and Goodbye

As I’m typing this, our final period for this class is over and I am officially signing off on this blog. I have loved this class so much, and have grown so much over the course of it. I feel so lucky that this class was offered because as I prepare to pack up my life for 3 months and live in Maine for an internship, this class made me feel so much more prepared in the technical skills that I have, especially with websites and WordPress. I have absolutely adored working with my group and would like to consider them both close friends now. Although we never had the…

    Nearing the End

This title gives me major nostalgia to DS106. Anyone else? Just me? Ok. Boy oh BOY have I been through the ringer this semester. I was all about the ~PoSiTiVe VibEs~ at the beginning of the semester, but for some reason the universe seemed to crumble around me for a few weeks in every way. Regardless, I made it out alive. I wouldn’t say I’m thriving, but I am surviving and that’s really more than enough for me after the past few weeks. As we get near the end of the semester I have to say I’m very proud of the work my group has accomplished in the face of…

    I’m BACK

After an unfortunate and kind of impromptu hiatus from this blog- I’m back. My group and I went through a major dry spell of not being in contact with our organization and so there was little to update on. Then, it seemed like the second things got on track and I had things to blog about again for this class, I got hit with some very devastating family things, some sudden and scary health issues, a nasty cold separate from those health issues, and a million other projects. Regardless, here I am with another blog post and I will hopefully finish out the year strong! Today is the day to…

    Roadblocks and Creative Exhaustion

I apologize in advance that this probably won’t flow very well, but my mind is in a bit of shambles at the moment. Roadblocks can be tough, especially if you’re riding a momentous wave and then suddenly you’re at a halt. I haven’t had much to update this blog on because that happens to be what our group is going through right now. Our group was working hard, the creativity had a brilliant flow, and we were all excited to get to work- then, without getting into too much boring detail, we were stuck. I can’t speak on behalf of my whole group, but I know for me personally, the…

    Spring Break: Here I Come!

We are SO close to Spring Break, and I could not be more ready. If you read my last post, then you know life has been a bit overwhelming for me as of late, and I think spending time at home will help me re-balance myself a lot and be a great help for my anxiety. Also, thanks to everyone who said such positive things about that post, that means so much to me! This week at my internship, I was created graphics to be used for content and made a very ~relatable~ and ~relevant~ meme that I thought I would share with you all. (Don’t tell anyone I’m sharing…

    My Anxieties (And Overcoming Them)

I said I was going to chill out with the deep posts. Fooled ya! Last Spring was by far the worst semester of my college career. I’m a person who prides myself on working hard, getting good grades, and having good time management skills, and last Spring, I felt like no matter what I did, I was coming up short in all aspects of my life. I was constantly exhausted and overworked, my anxiety was getting worse due to the amount of stress, and I was miserable. My second worst semester was the Spring before that (are you noticing a trend?). So, when this Spring came along I began expecting…

    Word Cloudz

This week we did an activity where we were given a completely random word, and had to create a word network of sorts of writing words that our initial word made us think of. Although our whole team was not there, Claire and I had an absolute blast. It was amazing to see the word “Shoes” take us to words like “Acapella Ballet”, “The Wiz”, “Dogs”, “Family”, and so much more. The goal of this was to get ideas going for our projects without really trying- to just stumble upon good ideas. After we got all of our words down, we then were asked to make slogans for our organizations…

    Reading debrief

This week we read two chapters in our class textbook, The Digital Plan by Brad Schenck, and one particular chapter really struck a chord with me. I’ve been in a LOT of group projects, with some working much better than others. Usually, I roll my eyes when I get assigned a group project. I think to myself “Great, just another project I’m going to have to basically do myself if I want it to get done”. I was skeptical going into this class, particularly because I knew I wasn’t really going to have say in who I worked with, but boy what a pleasant surprise my group has been. The…

    Client Update

If I have failed to mention which client I will be working with for the duration of Digital Design Workshop, it is the Rappahannock Choral Society. As of right now, I will be tackling this project with my lovely group members, Chris Ringham and Claire Smallwood. This project includes redesigning their website, making the website more sustainable and simple for them to maintain, as well as some supplementary projects such as creating a promotional video for their website and more. The project directly aligns with many of the things we have learned/read about already in class, particularly identifying goals and benchmarks. I can’t speak on behalf of my group members,…

    Get to Know Me!

Since taking Digital Storytelling last Spring, I haven’t blogged for a class, and I must say it feels good to blog again! To those who don’t know me, let me introduce myself. My name is Taylor Malone and I am a junior. I am double majoring in Communication and Digital Studies and Theatre, and minoring in Arts Administration. My interests include marketing, graphic design, social media, acting, ice cream, cats, and learning. I was also recently in UMW Theatre’s production of Merrily We Roll Along, which was incredible and maybe some of you saw it! My New Years Resolution has been to take more photos of my life, so while…
